The phone takes fantastic photos, so why would I spend money for my business by engaging a professional photographer?
Well, the phone may take amazing photos, but they will only take the photo that you set up. By this, I mean, your equipment might be perfect, but have you got a good ‘eye’?
Just because you’ve got a great camera doesn’t automatically mean you’ll take good photos.
- When taking selfies, there are only so many poses that are possible, and even then, it is usually obvious that the image is a selfie.
- Do you understand the use of light? There are often images on social media, where someone has taken a photo of someone with them standing in front of the light. This means that they are not making use of the light to capture the best image possible.
- Also, if they are facing the light, you may be blinding them with the sun. knowing how to deal with that isn’t something that everyone understands.
- How do you take group picture of your team, without one of your team members taking the photo and missing from the actual image?
- Or, if you put your mobile on a tripod and timer, everyone can look strained, as they’re waiting for the camera to take the photo.
- How do you take photos of you working at your business?
- Again, you can set up your tripod, but without knowing what setting to set your phone or camera to, can you be sure you’ll capture a good photo?
- Do you think about what’s in the background? Have you got something behind you, or a light or some other fitment in the office coming out of your head?
Professional photographers in the same way that you are trained in your profession, they are trained to look for all of these things and know how to deal with the many different lighting situations they may come across.
Light is one of the main things that affect images. When being photographed outside, you can have huge differences in the natural light on the same day, thanks to our British weather. Bright sunshine one minute and dull cloud the next. But also, inside different types of lighting, such as LED, incandescent, and fluorescent can create different effects.
Also, photographers know how to take team photos where everyone’s looking at the camera at the same time. And that’s not as easy as it sounds – especially with a large team!
They will have experience of being able to capture a range of photos with either you alone or you and your team in a variety of poses and environments.
Many photographers use props related to their clients business. They know where to place them, how to use them so that they don’t look awkward or innocuous.
There are occasions where your mobile is perfect for capturing a moment in time when you’re out and about; or you’re at an event and you want to take a photo to share with your social media, maybe saying ‘look where I/we were today. That’s fine, but for your headshots and team photos it is worth engaging a professional photographer.
So, returning to my question at the beginning – why would I spend money on a professional photographer for my business when I have a mobile?
Why wouldn’t you?
If your business is important to you, don’t you want clients and possible clients to see that you care enough to spend money on photography?
